RR & Spain 2010

Ah Yes, this is my 'usual' stop at lunchtime at La Jonquera just inside Spain, so this pic is out of sequence. I could not help but notice as I rode into the High Street that in the two years since I was last here six bar/nightclubs have opened adjacent to the main road car and lorry park. As I was buying a bottle of lemonade in the supermarket a heavily built tattooed man went into the pharmacy opposite and dragged out a scantily dressed young woman in harem pants and went off up the road with her shouting angrily. The till operator explained that a law has been passed banning heavy goods lorries from driving on Sundays, so the drivers park up here for the weekend and this has attracted criminal gangs and prostitutes. The latter she warned me sit at picnic chairs along the road to Gerona in the entrance to laybys, they have to be fit enough to climb into the lorries she joked, but added that it is all very dangerous. True enough I later counted a dozen as I rode along. I explained that in England the girls at the tables at the roadside just sell strawberries and when they are all sold the girls just go home. The till operator thought this was really funny and shouted the story to her friends on the meat counter who I met last time in 2008!
