The Sports Quasar

The 'Sports Quasar' was actually a mock-up created by Malcolm Newell for a late 1970s motorcycle show, where it was placed on the Avon stand, as seen here. It was never a running machine, but the bodyshell, which was mainly plywood, rested outside his Wiltshire cottage for many years. (See the other photos in this folder). PNB

Image?

Fortunately (?) I can well remember the 'Sports Quasar' mock up, in Malcome's imagination intended to run a turbo-charged Reliant engine. Other people, with a less intimate connection with Field Cottage might prefer to see an actual image?

mysteriously disappearing image

The first image mysteriously failed to load. After some jiggery-pokery in Photoshop, I've managed to enhance it enough for the God-like algorithms of bikeweb to accept it! The image comes from a folder in the Newell archives, via t'interweb. PNB

The way we were...

Yes indeed. Cue refleection amongst older readers on how far we've come since those halcyon Seventies days in terms of respect, dignity and appropriate advertising. Younger members may just think; "ewwww, Wieeered!"

Resting indeed...

Younger readers....

On the other hand, some younger readers may just think: "Phwooar!" As young men are wont to do.....even in the enlightened 21st century! ;-)

Younger readers?

I'm inclined to think to think they'd be the "left behind" but actually I'll leave comment to any 'younger readers' that might be on this site, even by accident.

Liked the moody "where is it now?" pic put up by rohorn. Kinda sums up the whole FF effort, with a few exceptions....
