John Bruce's BSAFF

In the 80s, John Bruce built one of the first straight conversions when he modified a BSA A50 by changing the riding position, adding one of Malcolm Newell's fairings and changing very little else. Royce wrote about it in Classic Mechanics and Blez rashly attempted to ride it to the 1985 Bol d'Or in the south of France in company with Neil Vass in his indestructible Quasar. The BSA had ignition problems and struggled to top 60mph most of the way, finally conking out about 30 miles from the circuit. While accompanying the stricken BSA the Quasar was sipping fuel at about 90mpg!
The saga was recounted in Motorcycle Sport. PNB
