Two 200mpg machines inspired by Craig Vetter

Alan Smith (left) and Vic Valdes (right) both in Kawasaki GPz 250s modified by the addition of Craig Vetter fairings and made drastically more fuel-efficient as a result. Both have exceeded 200mpg (Imperial) in Craig's economy runs in which they have to be able to maintain 70mph. Craig himself is in the middle, arms folded with Yours Truly alongside. I had the pleasure of riding Alan's machine for several miles up the highway after this photo was taken.
Neither of these Kawasakis is 'feet first' (in contrast to Craig's Helix) so it seems reasonable to presume that their efficiency could be improved even further simply by lowering
their seat heights and lengthening their wheelbases, with recumbent riding positions to match.

At the time of writing (23/8/2015) Craig Vetter is in hospital following a serious collision with a deer while riding his own streamlined Helix. I'm sure all fans of this site, and his pioneering work with streamlining, will wish him a speedy recovery.

Update on Craig 1st November 2015: Craig is now back at his home in Carmel Valley, convalescing, following many weeks in hospital. He's made great progress, but still has a long way to go before he'll be fully fit.
