February 2020. Robin Thomas RIP
I was sorry to hear of the passing of Robin Thomas. Based in Bristol, he was a stalwart of the Best Foot Forward club from its very earliest days in the 1990s and was actually the membership secretary for a while. Robin started riding way back in 1957 and was a big scooter fan when the mighty German Maicos were the biggest scoots available and he owned a Maicomobil.
When Honda’s CN250 Helix appeared Robin acquired a striking blue one and did a lot of miles on it, including to Europe. When Yamaha launched the Tmax500 he swapped his Helix for a bright yellow one and kept it for several years before buying a Gilera Fuoco 500, the ‘sporty big brother’ to Piaggio’s MP3 tilting 3-wheeler.
Robin came to many FF gatherings over the years, often with his wife Pauline on the pillion, and there are several photos of him throughout bikeweb at several different FF events, from South Wales to Beaulieu to Hastings.
This photo from the 2003 Quasar and FF gathering in Hastings is fresh out of the Blez archives. Gorffwyswch mewn Heddwch Robin. PNB
