Eddie Lawson & Dan Gurney riding Alligators (2001)

This is a photo of a photo that I snapped at the All American Racers HQ when I had the pleasure of visiting the Gurneys there with Peter Starr back in 2011 (and rode a brace of Alligators myself).
This photo was hanging up in the hallway (along with many others) and the caption reads:
"March 2nd, 2001 – Streets of Willow – Willow Springs, CA
The shoot-out between two different prototype Alligator chassis.
One was clearly better, so that's the one we're going to use in the batch.
While we should not identify either rider, they are both wearing traditional helmet
paint schemes from their racing days. The red and white one was 19-20 seconds
per lap faster faster than the black one."
For those who don't remember him, 'Steady Eddie' Lawson was a world champion four times in the 500cc Grand Prix motorcycle class, riding for both Yamaha (1984,1986, 1988) and Honda (1989).
The 'batch' referred to in the caption is the batch of just 36 Alligators that were manufactured for sale by AAR, at $35,000 each. It was deliberately built as a limited edition machine, and all were sold.
