Phil Read & Quasar @ Buckingham Palace (1979)

One of the classic photos from the memorable occasion in 1979 when Phil Read rode a Quasar into Buckingham Palace to collect his MBE. This one was used to illustrate Phil's own column in the July 2000 issue of Classic Bike magazine which also featured a Quasar on the cover, ridden by its owner, Mark Crowson, and my own 8-page feature on the machine within; see here: https://www.bikeweb.com/node/1224

Phil Read was a seven times grand prix world champion across three classes of machine: 125cc, 250cc and 500cc, from 1965 to 1974 and he also won the Formula TT world championship on the Isle of Man in 1977.

Phil passed away in October 2022, having reached the ripe old age of 83, which was no mean feat for a man who was a professional road racer for more than 15 years and smoked a huge number of cigarettes over many decades...There are two colour photos of him with Quasars in this folder from the 2000s:
